SIMULTANEOUS INTERPRETING

This service is widely used at major events, such as meetings and conferences, where the interpreter translates each speaker’s words in real time so that the audience instantly receives the message. It generally requires specialist sound equipment, such as booths or wireless listening systems like the well-known InfoPort.

 

CONSECUTIVE INTERPRETING

The interpreter listens and takes notes, then delivers the translation once the speech has finished or at agreed intervals. This mode is typically used for face-to-face meetings or small group discussions. It requires no special equipment.

LIAISON INTERPRETING

Liaison interpreting is used in business meetings, negotiations, or interviews with a small number of participants. The interpreter, fluent in both working languages, acts as a bridge between the participants.

 

WHISPERED INTERPRETING

In whispered interpreting (“chuchotage” in French), the interpreter quietly conveys the message in the target language to a small audience. It requires no special equipment.

 

SWORN INTERPRETING

This is a legal form of interpreting, which may only be carried out by interpreters authorised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Examples include police stations, courts, civil registries, and notaries.

 

REMOTE INTERPRETING
